Elevated Cycle Ways: Ride above it all

A bit utopian? Perhaps. But take a look at this proposal for an elevated commute that claims to be faster, safer, and protected from the elements. Plus, it is low cost.

Utopian, yes... at least in a metromess like Dallas, where the city officials are usually too busy squabbling over perceived bias against one group or another to actually accomplish anything worthwhile. In a city where one of the favourite pasttimes is "Whack-a-cyclist" our safety and ease of movement are way down the list of concerns.

Elevated cycle ways may be in the future, but it won't be our future. We won't live to see such things any more than we'll see the 2025 Veloweb. Maybe you're thinking, "But I'll probably still be around [unless some Billy-Bob-under-the-influence clips me with the mirror on his monster truck] in 2025." That may be, but I don't see the 2025 Veloweb progressing much beyond a bunch of disjointed jogging paths by that time.

But I'd love to be proven wrong.
